Black Stumbles

In the season finale that pitted #2Black against #3 Fielder Rd. Blue, a lop-sided contest took place. Blue won 21-1.

It was a game where Black never got settled and in a groove. Black didn't score their lone run till their final at bat of the game.

"That's a tough way to finish the season. When you control your destiny, you want to take hold of it and finish strong. We had a tough time tonight, but a great season overall," said Michael Williams after the game.

Blue found their groove at the plate early. Scoring in every inning, Blue never let up bringing their total runs to 21 on the night. Blue's defense stayed sharp as well. Holding Black to zero runs till their final at bat.

In Black's final at bat with two outs, second baseman Travis Akins knocked in Chris Berry and with Wade Holmes trying to stretch the play, a tough, very close call at third went Blue's way that ended the game.

"No rhythm at all. We couldn't get our bats going and nothing happening on the bases. A tough night," said outfielder Wade Holmes.

"We were flat footed and couldn't get off our heals. Give credit to Blue. They are a good team and they did everything they had to and finished us off," said catcher Zach Rich.

Black looks to their tune-up summer season beginning in June.

Black Tops #1

In comeback fashion, Black topples #1Tate Springs in the playoff showdown. It was the top two teams facing off Monday night at the Harold Patterson Complex. With something to prove, Black kept playing despite being down by 8 runs at one point in the game.

"That was a great game from both sides. They stayed on top of us and we kept pushing them. We never gave up and kept playing with great energy and a sense of urgency," said Michael Williams in his post-game conference.

Black took an early lead in the first inning, but quickly lost that lead when Tate Springs scored 6 runs in their half of the first. Tate Springs seemed to have found their grove offensively and defensively, holding Black to 6 runs in the first 3 innings. However, Black kept swinging and with two outs in the fourth inning, Black staged a huge run scoring effort to cut the lead and put themselves right back within striking distance.

"That was a big inning for us. We had to keep with our game plan and keep getting ourselves on base. When we are on base, we make things happen and that is what we did," said outfielder Caleb Hastings.

After an impressive fourth inning and a terrible third out call from a sliding Michael Williams who scored two runs on his double, Black kept Tate Springs in check with a 1-2-3 bottom half.

"Momentum was with us for sure. We were glad to have a real game with these guys and take them down," said third baseman Soup Campbell.

Black took their lead in the fifth inning with more runs to what would be their ending total of 17. Great defense, consistent hitting and aggressive base running took down the previously undefeated top team in the league 17-12.

Black will finish their playoff portion of the season next week when the face off against #3Fielder Rd. Blue in their weather make-up game at 6:30pm.
